Our Responsibilities

A Catalyst for Positive Change

At Blacklock, our ethos revolves around sourcing the most rare and unique stones in the world but this will never come at the cost of our values which are about creating a business that serves with good intent.

We are actively looking to enhance our sustainability practices, guided by a mission to operate in a socially responsible manner. Our commitment extends to anyone we work with – they must demonstrate a passion for safeguarding the environment and promoting the wellbeing and safety of communities.

Our 5 point Action Plan

  1. Understand our company’s impact and dependencies on biodiversity, enabling us to set measurable targets to avoid, reduce and restore.
  2. Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. We have a limited footprint but in the future we will look to support certified carbon reduction projects that that focus on biodiversity and ecosystem restoration.

  3. To work closely with our supply chain to ensure our sustainability goals align across all touch points of our business. We will look to be certified by a regulated body in terms of our supply chain and ethical practices. We only deal with suppliers and manufacturers who adhere to the highest standards of ethical practice.

  4. Strive for greater transparency for our material source, from our recycled gold to our gemstones and diamonds.

  5. Give back to communities through aligned charity partnerships.

‘As an independent fine jeweller for over 190 years we have been through world wars and many major global events. We have adapted and succeeded, however, we need to strive to be better on every front for us to be around for another 190 years and beyond.’

‘Our jewellery needs to be more than something that is beautifully crafted and made with the finest, most precious of materials. It needs to stand for positive change and a beacon for other industries on how to approach the environmental challenges we all face.’

Traceability

We are constantly evaluating how we can ensure the materials we use are 100% traceable – wherever possible we will obtain certificates of origin which show where the gemstones or diamonds have come from.We continue to develop relationships with mines directly, which allows us to guarantee traceability and the ethical nature in which the stones have been mined, cut and polished.

Wherever possible on this website we have stated where a gemstone or diamond has come from.

Suppliers

We exclusively collaborate with suppliers who share our ethical principles.

Our primary diamond supplier holds certification from the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), ensuring a responsible supply chain. This means that all stones are mined, cut, and polished in accordance with the Kimberley Process, while also prioritizing human rights by ensuring safe working conditions and fair compensation for all adult workers.
